Double bass player Pontus Grans is principal double bass in Vaasa City Orchestra since the fall of 2017. Before that he was principal in Oulu Sinfonia, the city orchestra of Oulu. As an orchestra musician, Grans has substituted in many of Finland's city orchestras, and performed at several chamber music festival, among others Korsholm Music Festival. Grans has also performed concerts by Einojuhani Rautavaara, Nino Rota and Eduard Tubin as an orchestral soloist. The commission and premiere of Lars Karlsson's "Sonata da camera" for double bass and piano in the summer of 2017 was the first sonata for double bass in Finnish music history. Grans was the musician representative of the jury for the Jorma Panula International Conducting Competition in 2018.
Pontus Grans studied double bass, first for Peter Grans in Lojha, and following that at the Sibelius Academy for Lasse Lagercrantz and Panu Pärssinen, from where Grans received his masters degree in music in 2015. Grans has further completed his studies for Duncan McTier in Switzerland, and participated in many master classes. Lately, Grans has immersed himself in baroque music at Novia UAS.
