Julius Pyrhönen

Double bass

Julius Pyrhönen started listening to double bass music early in his childhood since his father was playing the instrument. Soon he wanted to learn to play himself. Pyrhönen studied the double bass at the Sibelius Academy and his most important ensemble was the Novjaro quintet, which specialised in the music of Astor Piazzolla.

After finishing his studies he started playing with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra. In addition to playing with the orchestra, Pyrhönen studied baroque music at Novia University of Applied Sciences in Jakobstad where he learned to play the G violone, baroque double bass and Viennese violone, which he plays with Barocco Boreale a.o. One of  his recent projects is the Årstiderne ensemble, a quintet consisting of musicians from the Nordic countries, which performs new music connected to the different seasons around the Nordic countries.
